… I managed to get a shot of Kyla enjoying the beautiful weather.

I decided to convert her to a warm black and white using Gradient Map in Photoshop.

Blind shooting. Just hold the camera down in front of your subject and shoot, hope you get something. Invariably, I always do. Have gotten some of my most favorite shots this way. Especially of my silly girl, Kyla.

The sun has come. She is happy.

At first I was disappointed this next series was out of focus. Then I took another look. Maybe she should be out of focus.

In honor of the beautiful weather today, here’s one from a summer (or two) ago. You can come back into my life anytime, Summer.

What would I do without my silly girl?

A point-and-shoot shot of my snow-lovin’ girl – still sleepy this morning - but loving the snow.

Kyla still hates her boots. And even though the house is a construction zone, I still hate all the mud she brings in on rainy days.

Thus, the boots must come out.

This day, she wouldn’t even go out past the patio to squat. Just stood there waiting to come in looking so pitiful.

Went to take out the trash and this appeared over my head.

I know recently I haven’t had any client shoots to post, it’s been crazy with two jobs and school. But not to despair – I have two scheduled for this weekend, as long as the rain stays away. So tune in soon for some client sneak peeks!

On another note, it’s been almost two years Kyla has graced my life and house, and she’s always loved her crate.

I’ve been mulling over getting rid of the crate for a long time, because she just doesn’t need it. She has never had an accident in the house, and she sleeps in it all night long and when I leave for errands on the weekends with the door wide open. It’s always been her space. Her bed.

Well I finally made the decision the other day. Since I had a photographer from The Oklahoman coming over to take photos of me and Kyla for another newspaper story on my book, The Rescued (YAY!), I thought I would clean up the place a little and taking her crate down just seemed like the right thing to do. I never realized how much space it took up in my tiny, humble office.

So it’s gone.

It’s gone. And she doesn’t seem to care. At all.

Just sleeps in her bed – it’s in the same place the crate was – like the crate is still there. I call it her new “open-air” bed.

She doesn’t look very happy here, but trust me, she is. This is her lazy look. I see it about 90% of the time.

That’s just too comfortable.

… these boots are gonna walk all over you.

Yes, I bought my dog boots. I’m tired of all the mud. My backyard has some areas that are all mud and no grass, and Kyla always seems to find those areas with a vengeance at the most inopportune times.

So I got boots. Dog boots. So shoot me.

Getting her sea legs…

She walked like she was in high quicksand at first. Wish I had a video camera.
