Success!

Just back from the Edmond Book Fair, and we sold some books! It was great exposure for the Shelter, Paws for Life, and my photography, too.

Abby stopped by and became the mascot for all shelter dogs, graciously and excitedly greeting everyone who stopped by.

My mom stopped by and snapped a photo of our table. Mary Robertson, head of Paws for Life holds up a The Rescued book for the camera.

Change is Good & 2008 Faves

I think I have things the way I want them on the new blog theme – what do you think?

And to make up for not posting any images in a while, here’s a giant-sized post with my 2008 favorites.

[Sorry for the inconsistency in image sizes and such, it's late and I didn't want to go back and resize them all to fit the new theme. ]

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

That’s why!

I just finished a photo shoot. Not one where I took the shots, but Kyla and I were the subjects. Let me just say, I am so glad I do photojournalistic style photography. This was for a story in the local paper, The Edmond Sun, about my The Rescued book, and she wanted a shot of me, Kyla and my camera.  Getting all those elements to look good at the same time was hard!

That’s why I don’t do this kind of photography! I think I’ll stick to the way I do things. It works better for me, anyway.

[ Edmond locals: look for the story in this Tuesday's paper ]

Coats of Many Colors

How about a little contest today?

Some of you may know I just started Vet Tech school this semester, and in my breeds, restraint and first aid class all we’ve been talking about are cows, goats, sheep, pigs and horses (I do love the horses). Last week we FINALLY started on dogs. Finally something I can relate to.

Anywho, we learned all the registered colors that dogs can be, i.e., blonde, liver, black, etc.

There are SO many. Can you guess how many I listed in my notebook? There’s a FREE The Rescued book in it for you if you can.

Here’s a hint: it’s a number between 10 and 75. Post a comment with your guess, and whoever’s closest will win! Stay tuned and in a day or so I’ll anounce the winner.

Wonky Eyes

I was going through some old photos of Kyla and found this funny one.

Her eyes look all wonky. Like they are pointed in different directions.

I guess it’s the angle I was at – lying on the floor.

This month marks one year that Kyla has been a part of my life. I rescued her from the Edmond Shelter after she’d been there a couple months. I have no idea why no one scooped her up sooner, she is the absolute best.

If you are considering bringing an animal into your life, I strongly suggest looking at your local shelter first!

Shelter dogs and cats are usually the best pets you can get. And don’t forget about my new book, The Rescued. Email me if you would like to purchase one and help out a great cause – giving the shelter dogs and cats a better life!

The Rescued books are here!

Finally! The Rescued books are done. For those that don’t know, I volunteer at the Edmond, OK Animal Shelter, but haven’t been able to actually volunteer for a while. So I decided to do something else for the shelter: photograph rescued dogs and sell the photobooks to benefit the shelter.

It’s been a long process, photographing all the dogs and their owners, getting all their stories together, and piecing the book together into a beautiful, glossy photobook.

For some background and to preview some of the images that made it into the book, select “the rescued” from my blog categories above. There is also more on my old blog.

I will be selling the books for $20 each. If you are interested in purchasing one and helping out a great cause – the shelter animals – send me an email.

You can’t put a price on getting these special animals adopted and into a forever home. As a shelter dog adopter myself, I know how awesome these dogs (and cats) can be.

A Shy Friend

This little girl was at Klein’s house the day of his shoot. She was such a shy little girl, and I’m so sorry I can’t for the life of me remember her name.

I managed to get only one shot of her hiding under a lawn chair that her owner was sitting in.

Isn’t she so fragile and cute?
